DEIXIS ON THE SONG LYRICS OF COLDPLAY "BEST SONGS" ALBUM

Writing a thesis becomes a requirement to finish a study in higher education. This study focuses on deixis’s analysis on the song lyric of Coldplay’s Best Songs album with two purposes: (1) to find the kinds and the functions of the Deixis word in the song lyrics of Coldplay’s “Best Songs” Album, (2) to find out the effect of use deixis affects the meaning of the whole song’s lyric in Coldplay’s “Best Songs” Album. The method used in this study is descriptive qualitative, while the data is displayed in the song’s lyrics. It is expected to get the data about deixis words used in the song’s lyrics, and how the use of deixis affects the meaning of song’s lyrics. The subject of this study is the eight song lyric of Coldplay’s Best Songs album. The researcher used herself as the instrument, called a human instrument or human investigator, to analyze the data. The finding of this study is that the eight song's lyrics used five types of deixis such as personal, spatial, temporal, discourse, and social deixis. Personal deixis used in every song's lyrics included the three sorts of personal deixis, spatial deixis used in three songs, temporal deixis used in two songs, discourse deixis used in three songs, and social deixis used in three songs.
